Welcome to my first of many movie reviews! This review is about a Spanish movie called "Nocturno", which, according to IMDb, is an intense drama that tells the unexpected and ambiguous encounter of a sick father, in the last stage of his life, with his daughter, a nurse by profession, whom he presumably abandoned when she was a child. I discovered this movie in the foreign section of my library. I was really interested in the cover, which is a black and white photo of a wall with an old sickly man sitting in a chair with a young nurse next to him and has a handwritten title saying "NOCTURNO" on it; to say this interested me would be an understatement. The movie is in Spanish, so unless you understand the language, you must use subtitles. No dub exists (as far as I know) and even if there is one, I am sure that the way I watched it is the best way to see it. This is not my favorite movie I have seen, but for a movie I knew nothing about, this is pretty damn good. If these types of movies are your thing, you will definitely enjoy them. I personally love these modern movies that have come out that are in black and white. I think they are automatically very interesting. Movies like Light House, Nocturno, A Haunting in Venice, etc. would not be as great visually if they were in color, so I really believe that the black and white video makes them amazing. This review is a bit short as I don't have a lot to tell about the movie, as if I were to give a deep synopsis, I would spoil the movie. To give a basic run down, it starts really slowly, sort of painting a picture of a man's wife being awful and evil. It then sort of makes the nurse seem evil too, but as the movie goes on, you realize that the man was an evil person who (now that he is dying) had to face the anger of those he hurt. I definitely think this movie is worth a watch. However, I probably won't watch it again and again as the story was alright, in my opinion, but I have watched more interesting stories. I think the main draws are the visuals, the drama, and the audio. Other than that, it is relatively generic for me. I would give this movie a solid 6/10.
I hope you enjoyed my review and I look forward to reading more reviews in the future.
